Chernobyl, a miniseries of five parts co-produced by HBO and Sky, dramatizes the 1986 atomic accident, one of historical worst human-made disasters, and the sacrifices to save Europe from an inimaginable catastrophe.
The Chernobyl stars Jared Harris (Crown, Mad Men), Stellan Skarsgård (Melancholia), Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie) are first appeared on 6th May and followed by the subsequent episodes each Monday (Malancholia) and Oscar-nominee Emily Watson (Wave Breaking).
On 26 April1986, a massive explosion of nuclear material released by the Ukrainian, Soviet and Russian Chernobile Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Scandinavia and Western Europe took place.
The leading Soviet nuclear physicist, Valery Legasov, is portrayed by Jared Harris. He was one of the very first in the reaction team to understand the magnitude of the incomparable disaster. The Soviet deputy prime minister Boris Shcherbina is played by Stellan Skarsgārd who, within hours of the accident, is assigned by the Kremlin to lead the Government Commission on Chernobyl. Ulana Khomyuk, a Soviet nuclear physicist engaged in solving the secret of what resulted in the Chernobyl disaster, Emily Watson depicts.
The movie is based on a creative team including photography director Jakob Ihre (Thelma) ; production designer Luke Hull (Howard End) ; editor Jinx Godfrey (Theory of All) and Simon Smith (Endeavor) ; costume designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux (Brooklyn) ; two-time winning Emmy film designers Nina Gold and Robert Sterne as casting directors (Game of Thrones) ; and c. Chernobyl was shot in Lithuania and Ukraine.
